PLACROSYM

The Plantation Crops Symposium (PLACROSYM) was initiated in the year 1978. PLACROSYM is held biennially under the aegis of different Research Organizations/ Institutions engaged in research and development of plantation crops in the country. The objective of this symposium is to provide a common forum for interaction between the scientists and stakeholders engaged in plantation crops sector. This symposium will cover all aspects of research, development and extension of spices and plantation crops, including Genetics and Breeding, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Agronomy and Soil Science, Pests and Diseases, Physiology and Biochemistry, Harvesting and Post-harvest Processing Technology, Value Addition, Product Development and Diversification, Quality Control, Value chain, Marketing, Economics, Statistics, Technology Transfer and Extension, etc. The crops include Tea, Coffee, Spices, Rubber, Coconut, Areca nut, Oil Palm, Cashew, Cocoa and other plantation crops of commercial importance.

Presently, Plantation Sector is challenged by the outbreak of pandemic COVID -19 along with the vagaries of climate, environment & habitat, pesticide usage issues, inadequate plantation labour and high input costs. To overcome the crisis, there is an imperative need to bridge strong linkages between the industry and the scientific community. In this context, the PLACROSYM XXIV with the theme “Coping with the Pandemic and Beyond: Research and Innovations in the Plantation Crops Sector” provides ideal platform to deliberate on various issues concerning the sector and recommend strategies for making the Plantation Crops Industry more competitive and vibrant.

The Indian Cardamom Research Institute, Myladumpara, Idukki Dt., Kerala, under the patronage of Spices Board India is organizing the Plantation Crops Symposium (PLACROSYM XXIV), the 24th in the series, during 14 to 16 December 2021 at Kochi, Kerala. The focal theme of the Symposium is ‘Coping with the Pandemic and Beyond: Research and Innovations in the Plantation Crops Sector’.
